01. What It Is
LIMINAL is a low-pressure creative sanctuary. It exists because autistic and AuDHD individuals often experience alexithymia — difficulty identifying and naming internal emotional states. Visual and metaphorical expression bypasses the cognitive bottleneck of direct verbalization. The research literature on expressive writing (Pennebaker's paradigm) and art therapy for AuDHD adults consistently shows reduced allostatic load through creative output — not despite the mess, but because of it.
The Breath Gate
Every session begins with a pre-creative regulation gate — a soft, expanding geometric shape guiding 3 rounds of physiological sigh (double inhale, long exhale). This is the fastest known intervention for down-regulating the sympathetic nervous system. It takes 90 seconds. You cannot skip it. You can always exit.
Astrology Framing Rule
LIMINAL treats astrology as a structured framework for pattern recognition, not prediction. Baron-Cohen's Empathizing-Systemizing (E-S) theory notes that neurodivergent individuals often benefit from highly structured, systemic frameworks for processing chaotic emotional or interpersonal concepts. Archetypes and degrees provide that structure safely. Language is always curiosity, never determinism.
02. The Four Modes
Perfect Freehand Wabi-Sabi Canvas
A pressure-sensitive drawing canvas where strokes slowly fade or blur over time. Not a permanent artifact — the canvas is alive. This design choice breaks the perfectionism loop: you cannot obsessively refine what has already dissolved. The focus shifts to the kinetic act of the stroke itself — a stim in motion. Built on Perfect Freehand + Canvas Pointer API for smooth, pressure-responsive lines.
Web Speech API Voice-to-Poem
Record your voice. Line breaks appear on breath pauses; stanza breaks on silence longer than 1 second. The poem structures itself from the rhythm of your speech without editorial judgment. Offline when Google language packs are downloaded; keyboard mode always available as fallback. Optional: Claude API for metaphor suggestions on lines you flag.
SwissEph-JS Ephemeris Pattern Finder
A simplified visual transit dial — offline, ±5 year planetary positions bundled in under 2MB. Users can log mood and energy alongside current transits to discover personal patterns over time, satisfying the AuDHD drive for systemizing without adopting fatalistic astrology. All data stays in IndexedDB.
IndexedDB Constellation Drawing
Touch-draw freehand constellations on a live star field. Name them. Save them. Each constellation is a named, timestamped artifact stored offline. Share via QR code. Stars are procedurally generated (same shader family as BONDING's Starfield) — never the same sky twice, but always stable within a session.
